Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the subsidised gambling disorder prevention organisations promoted their preventive activities online, including financial management education, online sports challenge, responsible gambling quiz games, films about healthy living, survey and volunteer services, attracting over 430,000 participants. Moreover, supportive services were added in response to pandemic situations, including “COVID-19 Emotional Counselling Hotline” and free online courses such as martial arts, singing, piano, speech skill, etc., for the purpose of cultivating various interests to enhance residents’ mental health as well as parent-children relationship through enriching their home living during the anti-pandemic period.

Responsible Gambling Promotion 2020

1. Since 2020, the Social Welfare Bureau has funded Bosco Youth Service Network – ‘FREEland’ to carry out diversified activities as secondary prevention of gambling disorder among youth, protecting them and enhancing their resilience from gambling disorder as well as providing early assistance to youth at high risk of gambling disorder to face gambling-related problems.

3. The ‘Responsible Gambling Promotions 2020 Sharing Session’ was held at N1-G014 of the University of Macau. Distinguished guests attending this Sharing Session included Mr. Hon Wai, Director of Social Welfare Bureau; Mr. Si Chen, Assistant Division Chief of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Mr. Leong Man Ion, the then Deputy Director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau; Ms. Jean Jinghan Chen, Director of the Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Macau; the representatives of the Responsible Gambling Promotions Organising Committee, Prof. Fong Ka Chio, Director of the Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming of the University of Macau, etc. To acknowledge the support from different sectors, the representatives from the co-organisers, academic institutions, gambling disorder prevention and treatment centres, as well as media staff, were also invited.
