In February 2016, ‘Responsible Gambling Kiosk 3.0’ was officially introduced. Equipped with a passport scanner, the 3.0 version of RG Kiosk enabled users to apply for ‘self-exclusion’ and ‘gambling counselling service for families’ on it by just presenting their passports. In addition, information about how slot machine games worked and new information about Sic Bo were included in the Interactive Games section. RG Kiosk 3.0 was also available in more languages, i.e., in four languages in total, so that it would be easier for users to operate the kiosk and access responsible gambling information.

2. The first ‘Responsible Gambling Station’ was set up in the casino in Studio City. A ‘Responsible Gambling Station Ambassador’ was also arranged to promote responsible gambling (RG) at the station from time to time, and to provide RG information for interested people and to assist users with the new station.

3. The first ‘Certificate Program for Macau Responsible Gambling Trainer’ was organised. The programme aims to train gaming employees to be responsible gambling (RG) trainers so that they could pass on knowledge about RG and gambling disorder to their colleagues, thus facilitating the implementation of RG by gaming operators.

4. Commissioned by the Social Welfare Bureau, the Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming of the University of Macau conducted a survey on Macao residents’ participation in gambling activities and the prevalence rate of gambling disorder. The survey was conducted via telephone interview. A random sample of 2,000 Macao residents aged 18 or above was successfully interviewed. Results showed that the participation rate in gambling was 51.5%, an increase of 2% compared with the figure in 2013. In addition, according to the criteria of DSM-5, 51 respondents were likely to have gambling disorder, representing 2.5% of the sample. A breakdown of these 2.5% of sample showed that 1.3% (25 people) were likely to have mild gambling disorder, 0.8% (16 people) moderate gambling disorder, and 0.5% (10 people) severe gambling disorder.

5. All of the 24 Responsible Gambling Kiosks in Macao were upgraded to the 3.0 version.
